PSG open contract talks with Luis Enrique amid Premier League interest
Paris Saint-Germain have opened negotiations to extend manager Luis Enrique's contract through 2030, according to reports from Le Parisien and L'Équipe. The Spanish coach's current deal runs until 2027, but the Ligue 1 champions aim to secure his long-term future before the season concludes to deter potential suitors.
The club reportedly wants finalize the extension before summer break, aware that Premier League sides are monitoring the 55-year-old's situation. Luis Enrique has become PSG's sporting cornerstone since arriving in 2023, guiding them to domestic dominance while rebuilding the project around youth development and collective play rather than individual stars.
PSG's hierarchy privately describes early discussions as positive, with both parties aligned on the club's direction. The former Barcelona manager recently stated his desire for longevity at Parc des Princes, telling media in January: "I hope to stay 10 years. This is a totally different project where I feel very comfortable."
Should he sign the proposed extension, Luis Enrique would surpass Laurent Blanc's 1,093-day tenure to become QSI's longest-serving manager since their 2011 takeover. He currently trails Blanc by 145 days but could break the record this season, having already managed 151 matches across all competitions.
The move comes as Luis Enrique nears personal milestones - he requires 30 more games to equal his 181-match Barcelona stint. While historical PSG managers like Georges Peyroche (1,337 days) still hold longer tenures from pre-QSI eras, the extension would cement the Asturian's legacy in modern club history.
PSG's urgency reflects both Luis Enrique's Champions League credentials and growing external interest. English clubs reportedly view him as a transformative figure capable of reviving struggling sides, though sources indicate the coach remains committed to Paris' evolving project.
