RB Leipzig have moved ahead of Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign Hoffenheim forward Fisnik Asllani, according to a report in Sport Bild. The 23-year-old is widely anticipated to depart TSG Hoffenheim this summer, and the latest indications suggest he is increasingly favouring a move to the Red Bull Arena over Signal Iduna Park.
For some time, Dortmund had been considered the frontrunners for Asllani’s signature, with the player identified as a potential replacement for Serhou Guirassy. However, the German publication claims Asllani now views a transfer to Leipzig as the more appealing option, making a move to Dortmund less likely. Hoffenheim managing director for sport, Andreas Schicker, recently confirmed ongoing discussions with multiple clubs regarding the player’s future.
Schicker acknowledged the interest from both German and international sides, while also confirming the presence of a release clause in Asllani’s contract, reported to be around €30 million. “The situation is that there are talks with clubs both domestically and abroad,” Schicker told Kicker. “It’s also no secret that Fisnik Asllani has a release clause.”
Asllani has established himself as a key player for Hoffenheim since joining from Karlsruher SC in 2021, contributing consistently with goals and assists. Last season, he scored 12 Bundesliga goals, attracting attention from several top clubs across Europe, including reported interest from FC Barcelona. His ability to play across the front line makes him a versatile option for any attacking system.
RB Leipzig are looking to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season, following a campaign where they finished fourth in the Bundesliga. The addition of Asllani would provide coach Marco Rose with another dynamic attacking threat, potentially strengthening their challenge for Champions League qualification. Dortmund, meanwhile, will likely need to reassess their attacking targets if they are unable to secure Asllani’s services.
