Folarin Balogun is attracting significant transfer attention following a strong showing at the 2026 World Cup, with Barcelona emerging as a potential destination for the Monaco striker. The 24-year-old finished the Ligue 1 season in impressive form, equalling Kylian Mbappe with goals in eight consecutive league matches. He continued this momentum into the World Cup, scoring twice in the USA’s opening win against Paraguay and contributing to a 2-0 victory over Australia, helping his side advance to the knockout stages.
Barcelona are currently seeking a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who recently departed for MLS, leaving a void at the centre-forward position. According to data from SciSports, Balogun boasts a Club Fit score of 80 with Barcelona, factoring in potential development, playing style, and formation compatibility. Former USMNT goalkeeper Brad Friedel told Goal that he believes Balogun is “capable of playing in a big club and handling the pressure,” citing his experience in European football.
Balogun statistically outperformed the Ligue 1 average in key centre-forward categories, and his playing style is comparable to Lewandowski’s. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently sits at €23.8 million, making him financially attainable for Barcelona, especially considering his wage demands are considerably lower than those of Lewandowski or Marcus Rashford. The club already has an established relationship with Monaco following the transfer of Ansu Fati.
While Balogun may not be a direct replacement for Lewandowski’s proven goalscoring record, he could serve as a valuable rotation option. Barcelona have also been linked with Julian Alvarez and Joao Pedro, but both deals present complications. Atletico Madrid are reportedly unwilling to sell Alvarez, while Chelsea may be reluctant to part with Pedro. Therefore, Balogun represents a potentially more realistic and cost-effective solution for strengthening Barcelona’s attacking options. The club may view him as a project player with significant upside.
