Como manager Cesc Fabregas has suggested that midfielder Nico Paz would benefit from another year of development with the Serie A club, despite strong interest from Inter. Fabregas shared his assessment during an appearance on the “Partitazo de Cope” program, praising Paz’s growth and the strong relationship between the player, his father, and the club.
Fabregas highlighted the mutual faith that existed even during challenging moments for Como, recalling a difficult start to their Serie A campaign last season and a Coppa Italia defeat. He emphasized that both Paz and his father chose to remain with Como because they believed in Fabregas’s coaching and the club’s potential as the right environment for the young player’s development. The manager noted Paz’s significant progress while at Como and his importance to the team.
According to Fabregas, he believes another year in Como would be particularly beneficial for Paz’s continued growth, given his understanding of the player’s daily routine and his demanding coaching style. However, he acknowledged that the final decision rests with Paz and his family, and that no discussions have taken place with Inter or Real Madrid regarding a potential transfer during the current season as Como are still focused on their own objectives.
Fabregas expressed confidence that Paz, guided by his family, will make the right choice for his career. The midfielder has become a notable target for Inter, who are reportedly keen to bolster their squad with young talent. Paz has impressed observers with his performances in Serie A, showcasing potential for a significant role in a top European club. While Inter’s interest is strong, Fabregas’s comments suggest that a move this summer may not be in Paz’s best interests, potentially delaying any transfer until the following season.
Fabregas himself transitioned to management after a distinguished playing career, including spells at Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea. He took charge of Como in 2022, guiding them to promotion to Serie A and establishing them as a competitive force in the Italian top flight. His insights into Paz’s development carry weight, given his close working relationship with the player.
