Michail Antonio joins Qatari side Al-Sailiya after recovering from car accident
Michail Antonio has signed with Qatari club Al-Sailiya on a free transfer, marking his first professional contract since suffering serious injuries in a December 2024 car accident. The 35-year-old striker joins the Qatar Stars League side after leaving West Ham United in August when his contract expired.
Al-Sailiya, currently 10th in Qatar's top flight, announced the move on Monday evening with social media posts showing Antonio in their kit alongside highlights of his career. The duration and financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed. The Jamaican international had been without a club since recovering from multiple thigh fractures sustained when his car struck a tree while returning from training last winter.
Antonio made his competitive return to football in June 2024, appearing as an 85th-minute substitute for Jamaica during their 1-0 Gold Cup group stage defeat to Guatemala. The forward departs West Ham as their all-time top scorer with 83 goals in 323 appearances across nine seasons, having joined from Nottingham Forest in 2015.
The move provides Al-Sailiya with an experienced attacking option as they seek to climb from the bottom half of the table. For Antonio, it offers a pathway back to professional football following his rehabilitation from an accident that required three weeks of hospitalization and surgery. His last competitive club appearance came for West Ham in May 2024 before the expiration of his contract.
