Real Madrid complete €20m signing of Andriy Lunin from Almería
Real Madrid have secured the signing of Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin from UD Almería for a reported fee of €20 million. The 25-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the La Liga club, keeping him at the Bernabéu until June 2028.
Lunin joins after an impressive season with Almería, where he made 35 league appearances and kept nine clean sheets despite the team's relegation from Spain's top flight. His performances attracted attention from multiple European clubs, but Madrid moved decisively to activate his release clause.
The transfer provides immediate reinforcement for Carlo Ancelotti's squad following Thibaut Courtois' long-term injury last season. Lunin is expected to compete with new signing Kepa Arrizabalaga for the starting position, having already served as Madrid's backup goalkeeper during his previous stint at the club from 2018 to 2022.
For Almería, the sale represents crucial financial relief after their drop to the Segunda División. The Andalusian club had initially demanded €25 million for their first-choice keeper but ultimately negotiated a compromise with the European champions.
Lunin's arrival continues Madrid's strategy of blending youth with experience, following recent signings of Jude Bellingham and Aurélien Tchouaméni. The Ukrainian international will join preseason training next week ahead of Madrid's Supercopa de Europa clash with Manchester United on August 6.
